The three leading characters all engage in a bit of swapping and sharing. A young American studying in Paris in 1968 strikes up a friendship with a French brother and sister. However, things have changed for the both of them and feelings of jealousy surround their new relationship. As a man leaves his wife and daughter, a series of brief conversations, observed gestures, chance encounters and impulsive acts, tell the story of the relationships that flounder and thrive in the wake of this decision.
