It's a story of loyalty, responsibility, human dignity, humility, love, and a revelation of how fulfilling and deeply peaceful life can be in the midst of chaos when an individual knows who they are, has a deep sense of what is "right", and follows their inner voice without stress or doubt. It was a great one and glad I finally saw it. His films since are an undistinguished collection of action and exploitation pictures; the rare good film like “The Hired Hand” (1971) looks lonely in such company.
