It's a little long with the nib retracted, but just about perfect with the nib extended. Putting it back on, however took a while and was a PITA and also did need the tool.

The extra fine started shipping after the first batch so we’re still awaiting news on that.The nib, possibly due to the tweaking to get it to be barely able to write, began to spit ink when the button was pressed and the nib returned to the body. My feed did crack after just a few days.

Speculation on my part, I know, but if I am right then hopefully it is fixable.The opening mechanism is quite clever and as mentioned below, is unlike the Pilot one where the nib just pushes the trap open.

The Platinum Curidas is a retractable fountain pen that looks to be related to the Platinum Preppy.
Part of why the Curidas has filled this role so well is because of the click to open and single handed usage (sorry Lamy, you do need 2 hands for the Dialog 3) and for me I find it a lot more comfortable to use than a Vanishing Point. It’s a conversation starter and cheaper then the Vanishing Point so I don’t worry as much about losing it. The problem came that you need to get the front of the clip to line up in to a slot in the upper plastic protrusion on the pen while also getting the sides over the securing lugs.

Sure I was able to find one going for just under £100 (13178 yen) and the cheapest steel nibbed version for £67 (8800 yen), but at the same time on the same site I could find the Curidas going for just £54 (7700 yen), so still ~20% less than it’s like for like Pilot rival. I have always liked Platinum pens and this one has made me a bigger fan. 3. But received broken body. Cult Pens, from whom I bought it, were happy to swap but then that one might fail as well, certainly there seems to be no consistency and rumours are now going round that Platinum has paused production as US stores seem to be struggling with supplies again and a quick look in the UK indicates it could be a similar situation here for while both Pure Pens and Cult Pens have plenty of options in stock, they also have more than a few for which they are waiting for resupply.Where this pen has really worked well for me is sitting by my computer. Always have been quite bad for that. I guess what I’m trying to say is I still can’t personally decide if it is good value or not.

But at $80 it’s still half the street price on a Pilot Vanishing Point (and less than half the MSRP.
