On their heads men wore caps of different styles: the fur ones were worn in the east; knitted and woven – in the west. Armenian traditional dress is inseparable part of Armenian culture. Taraz is the name of their traditional dress, which is one of the traditional elements of Armenian. However, the silk dresses were meant to be for the rich. Men wore a caftan over the shirt which was another important traditional attribute of men’s Taraz. Several historical circumstances resulted in the formation of Eastern and Western Armenian costume styles, the patterns of which highlighted class identity, position in life, wealth, regional identity and gender. In the eastern provinces, men’s Taraz consisted of trousers, short shirts, and caftan.
