it looks like it could get really slippery. Perfect sunset hike. The 360 view at the top is gorgeous. Only saw one mountain goat at the top of the boulder field (we thought to see a herd)...not sure if time of day has anything to do with that.
Really great, quick hike. It took us about 1 hour from the car park to the boulder field and then another hour from there to the top.
Great trail for a family.A short trail that has an amazing view at the top. The trail is open to two-way traffic and bicycle use. Highly recommend having real hiking boots. As you emerge from the forest you will see a very large cairn. The first section of wooded trails was a nice workout. the last bit is over a gravel road. Neither of us are experienced at real mountain trails/hikes, but are in adequate shape to take on the challenge.
Lots of wildflowers as well. The blue runs were manageable. Anyone saying it’s longer is not using a good GPS. I give the title because there's nothing extraordinary about my fitness, and the climb doesn't have any specific elements that cannot be accomplished. Take the left trail for a easy hike up and follow the blue back downLove this hike....shorter but outstanding views at the top! Mountain biking in this park is only allowed on the steep service road up to the towers. The only thing that stopped us and our 6,8, and 10 year olds from reaching the summit was rain and wind 3/4 of the way through the final boulder field. Let me assure you: It is not difficult in any way to understand where you need to go - I'm not going to say it's impossible to get lost, but let's just say you'd almost have to try to get lost on this trail. Also, AllTrails says this hike is 5.3 miles. Look for the cairns..they will get you to the top. The hike up through the charred forest at daybreak was really cool looking, and on the way back down you can see the multitude of wildflowers growing there.
Any car should be able to navigate it. The views from the top are worth all the effort. The only thing that could be a downside was that the path was pretty narrow and surrounded by overgrown grass and bushes. The trails are well marked, making it nearly impossible to get lost. Now doing the totality of the climb? The summit has beautiful views and plenty of room to roam around and take pictures. Coming back down the boulders was a little sketchy at first due to the light rain that came in. Left at 6:20am (to get a parking spot and cool temps). These two mountain bike trail systems are … The drive out there is slightly terrifying- one lane road up the mountain with cars coming down the same lane! We took the longer trail up (2.2) and the shorter one down (probably less than a mile). The last leg of the hike is tundra and is serene and peaceful. its a false summit and there is still much farther to go once over the rocks but its easier to go on the trail.
