It features all the whimsy and wonder that's present in his films, in my opinion this series surpasses most of his other work. However I can't deny the popularity and success of this series, the first 2/3's in my opinion are by far its best. Personally I've never understood why it has to be a schoolgirl facing demons/monsters, I guess people like to see girls in uniform acting all badass. The animation is a little dated but everything else about this from the plot, characters and music are top notch. It's once again a story about a guy that can see spirits etc that are invisible to most people, while it never manages to pull off the profound messages or stunning visuals of the previously mentioned series, xxxHOLiC does achieve a large degree of success in tackling those aspects.
While both have weak episodes I felt Trigun had more and I was bitterly disappointed with its ending. A ridiculous and silly concept means that this anime provides a lot of side hurting laughs during its run. Either way highly recommended to fans of the action/fantasy genre. Putting some filler eps aside and the fact it takes 20+ episodes to really draw you in, don't drop this!
