I just saw this instructable. I ripped the edges off because it gives it a slightly cleaner look and makes them square, but if you don't have a table saw this is not necessary. The legs MUST be tight in these, but they also MUST be able to slide out if you're making it collapsible.
You will just need to take your time and double-check your measurements (as my grandfather used to say, “Measure twice, cut once.”).This project changes things up a bit.

This should prevent the wood from ripping.Do some pre-drilled holes on the side before attaching it to the sidewall with a few screws. The wall that we’re using has cinder block behind the drywall, so we’ll be using a hammer drill to drill all the way through the block.You can also add a framing strip as a backing so as not to break the drywall while you mount to it. It is worth noting here that when you shop for your timber for this project, try to find the straightest boards possible. Pre-built benches can cost a fortune, something that most of us do not have.
